You're optimizing only for lowest up-front cost
Brick and pavers cost more to install than a basic concrete slab or asphalt overlay. If the budget only stretches for a cheap pour, forced pavers with a skimpy base is the worst outcome. Better a properly built cheaper surface than a poorly built premium one.
The grade is extreme or the structural setup is wrong
Very steep driveways, unstable fill, or sites that need major retaining work first may need engineering and a different sequence of construction. Pavers can go on slopes within reason, but the edge restraint, bedding, and drainage detailing get more critical as the grade increases. Sometimes the right move is fix the slope and drainage first, then pave.
Someone is planning to use soft wall brick
As above: decorative house brick is not a driveway material. It absorbs water, chips, and fails under wheel loads. If the look of clay is important, use paving-rated clay pavers, not leftover building brick.
You want zero maintenance forever
No driveway is maintenance-free. Pavers need joint sand topped up over the years. Edges need to stay locked. Weeds show up if sand washes out and nobody reseals the joints. It's low maintenance compared with constantly patching concrete, but it is not zero.
The installer is bidding on surface price alone
If two quotes are wildly different, look at excavation depth, base thickness, compaction method, and edge restraints. The cheap quote is usually cheap because those are thin. That driveway will look great for a summer and start moving after the first wet winter.

Excavation depth for vehicles, not for a patio
A driveway is not a patio with cars on it. It needs deeper excavation and a thicker aggregate base because wheel loads concentrate force into the ground. Patio-depth installs under a driveway are a common failure mode.
Compacted crushed gravel, in lifts
The base should be crushed aggregate compacted in layers. Each lift gets compacted before the next goes on. Skipping compaction, or dumping a thick layer and hoping a plate compactor somehow densifies the whole mass, is how you get a driveway that looks perfect in October and waves by March.
Bedding layer, then tight laying
Pavers sit on a screeded bedding layer (typically concrete sand or a specified bedding material). Units should be laid tight in pattern, cut clean at edges, and kept square. Gaps that are too wide invite sand loss and weeds.
Edge restraints are not optional
Without a solid edge restraint (plastic, concrete, or other engineered edge staked or poured), pavers migrate outward under traffic. Polymeric sand done properly

Sealing: optional, depending on product and preference. Some homeowners seal for stain resistance and colour enrichment. Others skip it. Follow the paver manufacturer's guidance. Sealing is not a substitute for a good base.
Oil and tire marks: wipe spills sooner rather than later. Most modern pavers clean up well. A sealed surface can make cleanup easier, but again, sealing is a preference more than a requirement.
Snow clearing: use a plastic shovel or a snowblower with appropriate shoes. Metal blades dragged hard can scuff edges. Avoid aggressive rock salt habits if your product is sensitive to it.

"Concrete lasts longer." Concrete often looks worse sooner in this climate because cracks and patches show. Longevity isn't only about whether material still exists. It's about whether the driveway still looks and functions the way you want.
"Pavers are only cosmetic." They're a structural pavement system. The look is the bonus. The engineering is in the base, the interlock, and the edge restraint.
