The reason veneer fails — stones popping off, cracked grout, water behind the wall — almost never comes down to the stone itself. It comes down to whether the substrate was properly prepared, whether a vapour-permeable barrier and galvanized metal lath were fastened correctly, and whether a scratch coat bonded to the lath before any stone went up. Get the assembly right and the stone is the easy part. We do both, from ledgestone and split-face granite to cultured stone panels and limestone slabs.

Barrier, lath and scratch coat
House wrap or felt, galvanized lath screwed through to studs, then a scratch coat troweled on and left to cure. This is the foundation everything else keys into.

Stone setting
Stones are set in the right mortar bed, worked for colour variation and tight joints, and cut accurately at corners, openings and grade.

Grout, point and seal
Joints are packed, tooled and brushed. A penetrating sealer goes on exterior applications to reduce water absorption without trapping vapour.
