Brick & Stone Patios in Surrey, BC

Surrey gets about 1,500 mm of rain a year. A patio that isn't graded and drained properly doesn't just get wet — it pools against the foundation, heaves in winter where water sits under the surface, and ends up with a low spot that holds a puddle every time it rains. Good patio design starts with where the water goes: a consistent slope away from the house, edge drainage where the grade won't carry it far enough, and a base that stays stable when the ground is saturated. Get those right and the surface choice — pavers, flagstone, cobble or a combination — is a design decision.

When to Call for Brick & Stone Patios in Surrey

A backyard that's mostly grass you never use

A well-drained patio surface gives you outdoor living space that stays usable through nine months of Lower Mainland weather, not just the dry weeks.

A rotting deck that needs replacing

A masonry patio at grade doesn't rot, doesn't need repainting, and won't require deck board replacement in ten years. It's lower lifetime cost and lower maintenance.

Water pooling against the house after rain

A patio graded properly to drain away from the foundation moves that water before it soaks in. We survey the existing grade before we design the patio.

Our Brick & Stone Patios Process in Surrey

  1. 1

    Grade survey and drainage plan

We read the existing slope, identify where water currently goes, and design the finished grade and any edge drainage before anything is excavated.

  2. 2

    Excavate and base

The area is dug to the right depth for the surface material and expected use, then a compacted granular base is built up in layers.

  3. 3

    Set the surface

Pavers or stone go down on a screeded bedding layer. Each unit is set and checked for level and drainage slope as we go.

  4. 4

    Edge, sand and detail

Edge restraints are staked, polymeric sand is swept in and set, and any integrated features like steps or seating walls are tied into the main surface.

Common Questions

Surrey Masonry FAQs

Most of the time, yes. Sunken pavers usually just need the affected area lifted, the base re-levelled and the pavers re-laid. We re-sand and compact so they hold their position and drain properly.
